Wild Card Weekend
Frans’ Flyers (27-27)
Met de kans om het reguliere seizoen te eindigen met 30-24, kreeg Frans zaterdag al het deksel op de neus, 49ers waren nergens. Dan heeft Siriani geen nood aan een hogere seeding en verliest van de Commanders en als laatste -omdat de Giants zo nodig moesten winnen - spelen de Raiders plots alsof hun leven ervan afhangt tegen de Chiefs. Dus na 18 weken zwoegen wordt het 27-27. Dan maar hopen dat de playoffs soelaas brengen:
Pick 1 - Rams @ Panthers (+10.5) : De Panthers zijn ass backwards in de playoffs gekomen en ik besef dat ze op verschillende plaatsen playmakers beginnen te krijgen. De offense van de Rams is niet te stoppen, maar blijkbaar gaan de weersomstandigheden een rol spelen en dan zie ik de Panthers het wel onder 10 houden.
Pick 2 - 49ers (+4.5) @ Eagles : Dit is eigenlijk volledig tegen wat er vorige week is gebeurd tegen de Seahawks en San Fransico had problemen om de run te stoppen, maar als de 9ers mogen verliezen met meer dan een FG, dan neem ik het.
Pick 3 - Chargers @Patriots (-3.5): Ik ben een absolute fan van Herbert en de Pats hadden een cakewalk schedule. Ik vermoed dat Harbaugh even gelijke tred zal houden, maar dat het gebrek aan een degelijke OL hem de nek gaat om doen.
Dirk’s Dares (26-25)
Dirk is nipt boven .500 na het regular season. Ook hij ging de mist in met de 49ers en zijn vertrouwen in de Ravens btrachten hem op 1-2 nadat de Raiders konden winnen van de Chiefs. Dirk gooit het dee week over een andere boeg, namelijk de over/under, hopelijk loopt dit goed af:
49ers @ Eagles under 44.5: beide teams hebben tegen goede defenses last om iets op het scorebord te krijgen. Nu zijn dit twee goede defenses, dus de under lijkt een play die voor de hand ligt. De Eagles hebben heel vaak dit jaar maar 1 van de 4 kwarten iets op offense kunnen brengen, en de 49ers kwamen tegen de Seahawks niet verder dan 3 punten. Dit wordt een game in de trenches, en dus denken wij aan minder dan 44.5 totale punten.
Texans -3.5 @ Steelers: ook hier dachten we aan de under, maar het puntentotaal is in deze match slechts 38.5, dat is al wat risky. De Steelers hadden een last second FG miss van de Ravens nodig, en de Texans zijn het team in vorm met 9 (!) overwinningen op rij. De Texans defense gaat Aaron Rodgers onder de mat vegen en DK Metcalf geen kans geven om big plays te maken.
Rams @ Panthers under 46: Als laatste pick moesten we zoeken, maar toen viel ons oog op het weerbericht in Charlotte voor zaterdag: het gaat er weer regenen. Dat voorspelt weinig goeds voor de offenses, en voor de passing QBs die Young en Stafford beide zijn. Neem daar nog bij dat de Panthers de laatste 4 weken nog niet in de buurt van dat totaal kwamen, en je begrijpt onze keuze

Frans’ Flyers (27-27)
With a chance to end the regular season at 30-24, I already got a reality check on Saturday; the 49ers were nowhere to be found. Then Sirianni decided he didn’t need a higher seeding and lost to the Commanders, and finally—because the Giants just had to win—the Raiders suddenly played like their lives depended on it against the Chiefs. So, after 18 weeks of grinding, the score stands at 27-27. Let’s hope the playoffs offer some consolation:
Pick 1 - Rams (+10.5) @ Panthers: Sorry, but the Panthers stumbled backwards into the playoffs. I realize they are starting to get playmakers in several positions, but if the Rams don’t give them a beatdown here, LA can get eliminated the following week as far as I’m concerned.
Pick 2 - 49ers (+4.5) @ Eagles: This goes completely against what happened last week against the Seahawks, and San Francisco had trouble stopping the run, but if the Niners are allowed to lose by more than a field goal, I’ll take it.
Pick 3 - Chargers @ Patriots (-3.5): I am an absolute fan of Herbert, and the Pats had a cakewalk schedule. I suspect Harbaugh will keep pace for a while, but a lack of a solid O-line will ultimately do him in.
Dirk’s Dares (26-25)
Dirk finished the regular season just slightly above .500. He also missed the mark with the 49ers, and his faith in the Ravens left him at 1-2 after the Raiders beat the Chiefs. This week, Dirk is changing tack by focusing on the Over/Under; hopefully, this ends well:
49ers @ Eagles – Under 44.5: Both teams struggle to put points on the board against good defenses. Since these are two top-tier defenses, the Under seems like an obvious play. The Eagles have often managed to produce offense in only one of the four quarters this year, and the 49ers didn’t get past 3 points against the Seahawks. This will be a game won in the trenches, so we’re betting on fewer than 44.5 total points.
Texans (-3.5) @ Steelers: We considered the Under here as well, but the point total for this match is only 38.5, which is a bit risky. The Steelers needed a last-second field goal miss by the Ravens to survive, while the Texans are the team in form with nine (!) consecutive wins. The Texans’ defense is going to sweep Aaron Rodgers under the rug and won’t give DK Metcalf a chance to make big plays.
Rams @ Panthers – Under 46: We had to search for our final pick, but then we saw the weather report for Charlotte this Saturday: it’s going to rain again. That bodes ill for the offenses and for passing QBs like Young and Stafford. Add the fact that the Panthers haven’t come close to that total in the last four weeks, and you’ll understand our choice.
